Water drops and folds around dark boulders, splitting into streams before rejoining further downstream. Rather than standing back to describe the surrounding forest, the photograph moves close to the river itself. The water becomes the landscape.
Black and white emphasises the contrast between the fixed weight of stone and the constantly changing surface around it. Every part of the river is moving, but the photograph gives that movement structure—currents, highlights and darker channels briefly organised inside a single frame.
