I like standing on clifftops and scanning the horizon.
On this rain-soaked afternoon at Stanwell Tops, a low band of clouds hovered above the Pacific beneath an enormous grey canopy. What held me was the separation between them: the smaller clouds seemed almost independent, suspended in the narrow space between ocean and sky.
Most of the photograph is weather. The coastline has disappeared and even the horizon has become uncertain. What remains is a layering of cloud, tone and atmosphere—a landscape reduced almost entirely to sky.
