A wave gathers itself for only a moment.

Photographed at Dixon Park Beach in the subdued light of dawn, the breaking wave is held somewhere between form and disappearance. Its green-blue body remains visible while the crest and surrounding water dissolve into movement.

The extended exposure changes the photograph from a description of a wave into an impression of its passage. Water entering the frame continues through it, carrying several adjacent moments into one image.

I like the tension between the recognisable and the uncertain.

For an instant the wave rises from the darker sea.

Then it returns to it.
