The tide can draw with remarkably little material.

At Gerroa, shallow forms rise from wet sand, each edged by a narrow line of reflected light. Seen closely, scale becomes uncertain. They might be small ridges left by water or an aerial view of a much larger landscape.

That ambiguity is what attracted me.

Wind, tide, sand and light had already made the photograph's structure before I arrived.

I only had to notice it.

By the next tide it would be gone and another pattern would take its place.
