At Gerroa, warm reflected light catches the moving clouds above a coastline otherwise dominated by deep blues and cool evening tones. An extended exposure softens both cloud and water, allowing the changing weather to become broad fields of colour and movement rather than fixed forms.
The green headland and dark rock shelf provide the still points in the photograph. Around them, ocean, cloud and light continue to shift.
What interests me here is not the sunset itself, but what its light does somewhere else — transforming a familiar stretch of coast for a few minutes before the colour disappears.
