The event is spectacular, but what makes the photograph work is the tension between permanence and instability. Rock holds its ground while water, cloud, colour and weather change almost by the second. I had gone to Werri Beach to photograph the approaching storm and almost missed the sunset developing behind me—a reminder that the picture is not always where you first expect it to be.
