I watched him walk towards the edge while preparing a 30-second exposure. For the photograph to work, he needed to stop—and stay still long enough to remain visible while water and cloud continued moving around him. He did.
That small act of stillness changes the entire scale of the photograph. The figure becomes both subject and measure: one person held briefly between the solidity of rock, the movement of the Pacific and the enormous space beyond.
