Illuminated Tree, Jounama Creek

The trees surrounding my campsite at Jounama Creek appeared unremarkable in daylight and disappeared entirely into the moonless night. Then, by chance, a sweeping LED lamp—moved to better illuminate a campfire meal—briefly revealed their presence. In that fleeting glow, the possibility of a photograph emerged.

After contemplating the hidden scene over steak and wine, I moved the light to draw an image from the surrounding blackness.

I am fortunate to have made this photograph. The following morning, while exploring along the creek, I slipped on frosty ground leaving me unconscious and with a broken hand, ending the trip. Rediscovered and processed two years later, the image stands as a reminder of chance, resilience and the rewards of patient observation.
