The Blue Sea is built from horizontal layers.
A dark blue Pacific occupies the lower part of the frame while cloud and sky stretch into softer bands above it. The long exposure suppresses small detail and allows movement to accumulate, transforming a recognisable seascape into broad fields of colour and tone.
The horizon is precise enough to orient us, but little else is fixed. Clouds lose their individual shapes. Surface movement disappears into blue. What remains is less a description of Coalcliff than an impression of being there—looking outward while light, weather and time continue to change.
Long exposures interest me because they do not simply record a moment. They gather moments together.
Here, the camera sees time differently from the eye.
The horizon holds still. Everything around it passes.
