A calm Pacific stretches towards an almost perfectly level horizon while clouds linger in the last blue light of the day.
Unlike the more abstract works in Horizon, this photograph holds onto recognisable space. Sea remains sea, sky remains sky, and individual clouds can still be read as clouds. The long exposure works quietly, softening movement rather than dissolving the landscape completely.
What interests me here is the interval between daylight and night. Colour begins to withdraw, the ocean darkens and the horizon becomes a simple line separating two increasingly similar fields of blue.
There is no dramatic event.
The photograph is about waiting long enough for very little to become enough.
Day has almost gone.
Night has not quite arrived.
