A boy stands quietly in front of the trees, hands tucked behind him and the Superman emblem filling the front of his hooded jacket.
There is an obvious visual joke available in that large symbol, but what I like is how little the boy plays to it. He looks directly at me with a calm expression. The heroic badge and the reserved posture pull in different directions.
This was another photograph from the Wilmot residents project. As with the other portraits, I don't want the wider circumstances to overwhelm the individual.
It is a simple meeting between photographer and subject, but the clothes, stance and direct gaze give us just enough to start making our own associations.
