This photograph is less about a pose than about what happens while one pose is disappearing into another.

Lenio turns away from me. One arm reaches across the picture while her head and hair dissolve into motion. The body is still recognisable, but the face has almost ceased to be descriptive.

I was pushing the camera in poor light throughout this performance. Here the resulting blur becomes useful. It leaves a trace of the speed and physicality that a perfectly frozen photograph might have lost.

For me, this is one of the pictures in the series where photography and dance meet most clearly: one medium trying to hold something the other keeps moving.
