I don't think light really bubbles, but that is still what I see in this picture.
By deliberately taking the lens out of focus, recognisable detail disappears and points of light expand into soft circles. Some overlap, some almost vanish into the background, and none provides the eye with the sharp point it normally expects from a photograph.
Photography usually carries an assumption that focus equals clarity. Here I was interested in the opposite.
Removing sharpness did not remove information so much as replace one kind with another: colour, density, distance and the small relationships between one patch of light and the next.
