Removing colour changes the same landscape considerably.
The red of the domes and blue of the sky disappear, leaving mass, contour and shadow to carry the photograph. The rounded forms become almost sculptural, while the pale band of grasses establishes a long horizontal line beneath them.
In this interpretation I am less conscious of Kata Tjuta as a red desert landscape and more aware of its extraordinary physical structure.
The photograph becomes a study in repetition: curved stone, deep shadow, open sky and grass extending from one edge of the panoramic frame to the other.
