Icon, Nobbys Headland #6410

from $450.00

Nobbys is one of those landmarks that can become almost invisible through familiarity.

Here, the long exposure removes much of what we normally associate with the place. The ocean loses its surface and becomes a pale field. The sky contains little to establish weather or time. Even the breakwater is reduced to a thin dark line leading towards the headland.

What remains is Nobbys itself.

Its small dark form sits almost alone within the enormous expanse of pale water and sky, recognisable yet strangely detached from the city behind it. The photograph is less a description of Nobbys than a distillation of it.

I have known this shape for a long time.

Perhaps that familiarity is why I wanted to see how little of the place I needed to show before it became itself again.
