Fine Art Abstract Photography of Merewether Pool

This collection, Night Surf, is composed of minimalist yet intensely expressive panoramic photographs, rendered in a 6×17 format. Shot during a winter night at Merewether Ocean Baths, the images depict dramatic high surf cascading over the rock shelf and into the pool, illuminated by the artificial glow of poolside lighting. The interplay of natural and man-made light transforms the foaming waves into an almost abstract, iridescent spectacle—an “exploding dance” of motion and light.

The compositional beauty of these nocturnal scenes lies in their ability to both freeze and convey motion: the extended exposure captures the raw force of the surf while also dissolving it into luminous blur. The stark contrasts and sweeping tonal ranges heighten the drama, rendering each image as both a frozen moment and a meditative abstraction.

This series invites contemplation of the fleeting and the eternal. In each image, time is stretched, light is sculpted, and the familiar—here, a beloved ocean pool—becomes extraordinary. It’s an encounter with something both elemental and elusive.
