Two Minutes, Twenty-Six Seconds, 53rd & Fifth #0427–0438

from $450.00

I stood in one place while the street changed around me.

These eight photographs were selected from two minutes and twenty-six seconds on 19 October 2013 near West 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue. The buildings barely move from one frame to the next. Everything at street level does.

People arrive, disappear, overlap and exchange places without necessarily acknowledging one another. The man in the red jacket provides one thread through the sequence, but he is only one of many. Looking across all eight frames, small incidents become visible that were easy to miss while I was photographing.

Presented together, the work is less about a particular pedestrian than about time itself — and how much of ordinary human life can pass through one small piece of pavement in little more than two minutes.
