I made these pictures on October 19th, 2013.

I had been walking along West 53rd Street when I noticed how the sun, shining down 5th Avenue, was being bounced around by the high-rises and shop fronts. It was not the first time I had found backlighting with beautiful front fill ‘movie set’ light on the streets of New York City.

I photographed during a single light change, standing still, as shoppers, tourists and business people walked past me heading downtown.

Red Jacket Man punctured the monochromatic tones of the NY streetscape. I don’t know what had caught his attention - as he passed me I turned to cross West 53rd before the lights matched his clothing.
